Downtown Akron - Main St. just south of Canal Place, 2001
January 2001
Akron was called the "Rubber Capitol of the World" for having three major rubber companies in town. Globalization has decentralized the rubber business, but Akron is still a leading center of polymer research. This site is near the old Goodrich plant where my father used to work after WWII, and is also the site of the Cleveland Indians' AA league baseball team's (the Aeros) stadium, Canal Park.
